
Dr Osama Siddique
Author, Academic, and Legal & Policy Reform Expert
Dr Osama Siddique is a Pakistani scholar, academic, legal and policy reform expert, and author. He works at the intersection of law and policy and employs diverse legal and social science research methodologies. His policy work involves advising governments, justice sector institutions in developing economies, IFIs, international organisations, and programmes funded by foreign governments on rule of law, justice sector reforms, human rights protection, and access to justice, amongst other things. Dr Siddique was the inaugural Henry J. Steiner Visiting Professor of Human Rights at Harvard Law School and also serves as a permanent senior faculty of the Institute of Global Law and Policy (IGLP) at Harvard. In the past, he has taught in Pakistan, the US, Qatar, Spain, and Thailand. He founded the School of Law and Policy at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and served as its first chair and as an Associate Professor. He has also worked extensively as a transactional lawyer for two of the top global law firms in New York and as an advocate of appellate courts in Pakistan. peer-reviewed articles, national reform reports, and the award-winning book ‘Pakistan’s Experience with Formal Law: An Alien Justice (2013). He also writes English and Urdu historical fiction. His literary contributions include international peer-reviewed law journal articles, national reform reports, and legal textbooks. He also writes historical fiction; ‘Snuffing Out the Moon’ – his debut novel – was published in 2017 and was translated in Urdu as ‘Chand Ko Gul Karen To Hum Janen’ (2021). His first Urdu novel, 'Ghuroob e Shehr Ka Waqt' was published in 2023. Dr Siddique holds an LLM and a Doctorate in Law from Harvard Law School, as well as a BA (Hons) in Jurisprudence and an MA from Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He is a graduate of the Government College, Lahore, and LUMS Business School. In 2020, he received the Pride of LUMS Outstanding Alumnus Award.
